I am a retired businessman and I am getting ready to live a dream I have had for over 20 years !
Sometimes you just have to do it !
I now have the boat I always wanted, a 58 foot bluewater coastal cruiser.
It is a 2001 that I bought in Charleston in 2007 and hired a captain
to teach me how to operate it and cruised it up to Windsor, ontario Canada
, just across the detroit river from Detroit, Michigan and have spend the last two years refitting the electronics
and adding features that we wanted on our boat as well as learning
since this is our first.
All seems well and next summer our plan is to take two months to cruise
down the St. Lawrence to Quebec
city which will be our first major cruise
with it. So far we have just done a few 4 day cruises, other than bringing it up from Charleston which took 17 days and 1800 miles. Great Trip ! Up the ICW
, the atlantic, the hudson
, Erie Canal, Lake Ontario
, Welland Canal, Lake Erie to Windsor.
The only rough water
we encountered was for a four hour stretch from Cleveland to Put-in-Bay Island in Lake Erie, waves were 7 to 8 foot but the boat handled it well, although not the most comfortable ride.
Am glad to have found this forum as it seems to be exactly aligned with the type of boating
that we want to do. I have been on the THT forum for a few months and although it is good, it is 99% about fishing
and fishboats. The only thing I know about fish
is which section they are in at the grocery store.
I have already made a post in the anchor
section and hope to become a regular member
of this community.
