Hi Everyone

Good day to you all.
My name is Chris, i am 32 and from the Isle Of Man, United Kingdom.
After quite a full but hectic and very dangerous life for the last 6+ years, i am finally going to throw in the towel and do my soul and body some TLC that it needs.
So, i have recently bought a Sabre 27 with the sole intention of fitting her out for voyaging. The plan is to get her ready to complete a circumnavigation starting in late 2017 or early 2018.
Any advise on squaring away a 27ft for this voyage would be warmly welcomed, she will also be my live aboard once it is moved from the UK to the Isle of man.

Many thanks

Chris (swampy)

Re: Hi Everyone

Chris, Welcome to the community. We have some interesting threads that focus on the challenges of ocean passages on smaller vessels with limited water and storage space for provisions. Keep us posted of our adventures.

Hi Chris.. Welcome to CF..
Remember sailing one of those back in the 80's.. belonged to the Head Chef at the Palace Court in B'mouth so we had some great area's to cruise coming out off Poole Harbour.. nice sturdy boat that'll get you where you want to get.
Best wishes with the upgrade project..

Re: Hi Everyone

Single fin or twin keel?

The boat looks to be rather short on sail area. You might consider adding a short bow sprit to set a drifter on for light air sailing. My sense is that more voyages founder on the frustration of light air sailing which is going to be 1/4-1/2 of your volyaging time than the fear from heavy weather which will be about 1-2%.

Welcome Aboard CF Chris!

Since you asked about threads...I will send you some tips I use to search for stuff on CF. There are so many threads (topics) that it may take you hours to read just the list of them. But, skimming a few should help you.

More later..

Re: Hi Everyone

Chris,
I saw on your CF Profile a short mention that you were involved in Mine Clearance.

That is a dangerous job. I dont' know from personal experience, but what Hollywood shows us in movies like The Hurt Locker and The English Patient, it looks like it takes extreme COOL hands and head to do that, something that will serve any sailor well.. Care to tell us a little about it? I am sure some CF members may find that fascinating. That is a sincere request.

Stay Safe and Enjoy Sailing and CF!

Re: Hi Everyone

Thank you to everyone for the greetings. As a few of you have now asked about my mine clearance, to save me typing it all up, i will drop a link to my recent crowdfunding page. on here you will find pretty much everything you may want to know about my mine clearance operations. currently i am in Ukraine clearing mines and helping to train volunteers on the front line.
I will also be speaking at a charity event in Ghent, Belguim in November on the landmine crisis in Burma. so i will drop a link for that incase anyone is near by and would like to come to what will be a really good event.

many thanks
