Hi All, Newbie Here from Southern California

I've long held a dream of sailing simmering on the back burner. For many years, I allowed the work life and life in general to take priority. Now, I have reached a point where I can pursue the dream. I've been at it for a little less than a year now. Since I don't have a peer group to learn from, I've taken a number of ASA courses and passed the knowledge on to my better half. We can now charter boats for overnights up to 40 feet. This is so cool! In fact, we're leaving for a week long charter out of Florida's Charlotte Harbor in a couple of days. So, the dream is moving along apace.

I have been invited to join a crew sailing from Hanalei Bay, Kauai to San Francisco. I stumbled upon this site while doing research for the same. I hope to learn something from you all about cruising and sailing in general.

Thanks and best regards,
ralarock

I recommend the Hanalei to SF sail in mid to late summer.

The plan is to depart out of Hanalei on June 5th...

to head north/northwest until we get over the Pacific high (somewhere around 38N to 40N) then turn right. Sea trials have gone well so far. We were out today and launched the spinnaker for the first time. Went fairly well. We didn't chuck anyone overboard, anyway <grin>.

Have you made this passage during mid/late summer?

Best,
Bob
