Hello, We're New Here

Hello, time to post an introduction. We have recently purchased a Bayfield29, and are very excited. We plan on sailing the North Channel of Lake Huron for a season or two, beginning next year(it's currently on the hard). After that, we plan on sailing it here to Amherstburg, ON and then enjoy the boat and sailing much closer to home. My wife has just completed an introductory sailing course, and she has plans to take some further courses including navigation this coming winter. This is a bit of a step for us, I have "captained" a 24 foot Limestone boat out of Blind River, ON, and previously owned an 18 foot drop keel day sailer. We are in the process of selling our motorcycles, and jumping into sailing with both feet<grin> If this all works out, and we enjoy this as much as we anticipate, then in a few years, just short of retirement, we'll sell the Bayfield, move up to something larger and with more creature comforts, and prep it for a move south, hopefully as far as the Caribbean, and maybe even further...who knows. Yes, a common dream, and we hope, an attainable one.

I guess that's us in a nutshell so to speak, we are looking forward to reading and learning on this forum. Thanks for having us!

Thanks Gord, beauty part of the province up there, friends of mine have a couple of Tim's franchises somewhere in the city. Sailing on Gitchee Goomee must have it's highlights

The reading and learning has no end. I was wondering if there could possibly be boats constructed of limestome because it didn't seem likely that a 24' boat would be used to transport limestone from a quarry. I have no idea what happens in Blind River so I "googled" Limestone Boats. All my imaginations about Blind River limestone boats were broght back to the mudane world! 'bring on that reading and learning!

Re: Hello, We're New Here

The Limestone boats designed by Mark Ellis are awesome boats, thick, strong hulls, they'll take more than the operator in the boat will. I've been out in that boat when there weren't any other boats out, and it just kept doing what they do best, just like the Energizer bunny!<grin> Great boat, fantastic hull design, and with the Volvo-Penta 271 DuoProp in it, it was ideal for fishing charters.
The "mundane world" isn't so bad, is it? Boring at times, but not so ...bad...lol!
