Hello to All

Hello to all,

I have been lurking this forum for about two years now. It has been a great help to me in a lot of areas especially in finding the right boat. I have enjoyed reading the many posts and getting to know all the members by their posts.

Last year a lot of things came together for purchasing a boat. Found the right size, full keel, classic double ender, lots of leaky teak to restore and a price not to be beat. For those out their looking for deals... they are out there.... Got mine because the former owner got a girl, got her pregnant, got married, goodbye boat. Not to mention research and haggling.

I'm sure I will have many questions as time goes I have one regarding an engine which I will post in the appropriate category but my plans for now are to remove it and re-power with electric, whoops did I just open up a can of worms with that topic?

It's kind of funny I read a post not to long ago about a guy being scared because he just bought a bigger boat, Heck I don't even know how to sail yet and I bought a big boat, Whats with all the whistlin and popcorn around these here parts, and has Mark J ever shown up?

Looking forward to many chats and if anyone is around the St. Augustine/ Jacksonville area would love to hook up and have a beer or two. If you need a hand or two on a sail My girlfriend and I would gladly help out to learn from the more experienced.

Re: Hello to all

Welcome. Years ago we bought a Tayana 37 and had never sailed before. We learned on the great expanse of the Chesapeake Bay.

Congrats and welcome to CF. There's a wealth of knowledge and opinions here that are difficult to find anywhere else.

Welcome to the forum...Chances are the prior owner will be lurking here before too long buying another boat due to some unforeseen circumstances.

Re: Hello to All

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. Yes on the electric can of worms. There are many places to learn how to be a better boater. Don't rule out the Coast Guard Auxiliary classes because you'll want to learn rules of the road very quickly if you want to leave the dock. If there is a cheap place to take a basic sailing course like a local club it might be a good idea to learn how the sails work best (especially with electric).
kind regards,

Re: Hello to All

I love the heavy displacement double enders. They make a great platform for serious offshore cruising. Congratulations on your purchase and the start of a new adventure.
