Hello-North to Alaska

For inexplicable reasons I just found this site. I am excited to read it. I live on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. We are planning to continue last year's explorations to Alaska on the 27 foot trailer/sailer I designed and built. Last year we trailered it to Prince Rupert BC and sailed north as far as Petersburg. We wanted to see a glacier, which we did sort of. The picture is of us stopped by the ice on the way to see LeConte glacier al la Shackleton, actually I didn't like the sound of the ice grinding against the plywood hull. This year we are going to trailer the boat to Port Hardy, the northern most town on Vancouver Island and head north from there. This will save 700 miles each way of driving and add about 260 miles each way of sailing. I would like to get as far north as I can in the time allowed. WE have up to seven weeks barring the unexpected. My wife and I are those over compensated ( my god the whole summer off) school teachers so we will see. We are leaving July 1st in case anybody else is headed that way. If you have any questions about SE Alaska cruising, I am happy share our limited experience, it as an amazing and awfully large place. Todd

Aloha Todd,
Welcome aboard! Good to have you here. That really sounds like a great trip. Lots of folks here on the forum from the Sound and even some in Alaska.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Welcome aboard. I am a bit North of you (Victoria) I had a similar trip planned for this summer since I also get those holidays, but my wife's health is going to force us to do short trips around the Gulf Islands in between medical treatments. Maybe next year.
