Hello, New from Florida

Howdy all, I'm Alana (40) and currently I'm in Port St Lucie FL. but really looking to head out of here in the very near future.

As of now I have absolutely zero experience in sailing but I have come to the conclusion that this is the next chapter in my life.

It's funny how life seems to propel you in certain situations and right now it just seems that mine is putting me on this path. Right now I'm in the process of finalizing packing up and closing up my life here and working on setting the wheels in motion to hopefully find someone with a boat that is willing to take me on and show me the ropes literally lol

Hope to get to know you all better as this adventure progresses and please be gentle with all the stupid questions I'm sure to ask because you know the only way to learn IS to ask.

Re: Hello, New from Florida

Welcome to CF.

Suggest you not jump in with both feet. Maybe you should start out looking for a day sail. Even a weekend sail would be better than shipping out for something like two years before the mast.

I just returned from six weeks in the Dry Tortugas. A friend of mine took his boat on the same trip but left later than I did and returned earlier. While he might have stayed longer he had a wife and two kids and it seemed the four of them had different ideas on the definition of a fun cruise.

Learning the ropes is the easy part. Finding someone who has similar ideas on what is fun on a boat is the hard part.

Good luck, Alana!

I recently saw an add on the wall of WestMarine store in Key West :Crew needed, sailing to the Bahamas, no experience needed.

You might try to get on one of those, the experience would be worth it!
