Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster.

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking off and on for a while now. Think it's about time to jump into the fray. I'm currently between boats, living in Santa Barbara, CA. A 30 foot slip here runs $30k + $6k transfer fee just to have the right to pay monthly fees, no joke.

Grew up in Mendocino. Sailed lakes and the Bay before moving here about 8 years ago. Hopefully will be getting a boat down in Ventura / Oxnard sometime in the next year.

I'd like to start weekending out at the Channel Islands and make a run or two down to Mexico within the next 2-3 years.

Hi Zomgie,
We are at Ventura Harbor and just returned from Santa Cruz island. Lots of SB folks at Prisoners and Pelican. LOL at least you can sell your slip in SB. We pay $400 per month and that's that. Not sure if buying the slip is a good deal or not ... but if you keep a boat for 10 years in Ventura ... that is about $40k.
SB also has the mooring balls which are much cheaper but you have to get one on lottery.
cheers,
Natasya

You still have to rent the slip once you "own" it. It's true the rent is cheaper, though! If I had an extra $30k laying around that I didn't want invested, I'm sure I could make up the difference at some point...

I looked into mooring. They don't plan on holding another lottery for a couple of years.

Looks like I'll be joining you folks down in Ventura

Re: Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I think a few SB folks marina in Ventura. I know the Pura Vida is owned by SB people. We are in Ventura Isle on M dock. Not that I can recommend it or anything. Ventura West might be a better Marina, but we have been here so long the BF doesn't want to change. LOTS of empty slips, so you should have your pick unless you want live-aboard at Ventura West. I heard there is wait list for that.
LOL yeah, I feel the same about that extra $30k lying around hahaha.
cheers,
Natasya

It will probably be sometime next year. I'm on a project that keeps me in LA most of the time. For now I'll probably have to charter out of Channel Islands. Or bribe the locals with food and booze!
