Hello from Trinidad in the Caribbean

Hello all,

I don't own a yacht, hell I can't even swim.

Hoping to do something adventurous with my life next year by buying a yacht (second hand of course)and try and learn to sail,hopefully between now and then I might get lots of information on here which would help me to decide if its a wise decision.

For now its a thought,until I figure out what I will be letting myself into.

Buying a boat, or a "yacht" is never a wise decision unless you are a billionaire with time and money to waste.

If you are half crazy however and fueling yer future on dreams ending in endless sun-sets and happily forever sailing into more optimism and happy endings, go for it.

Reality however is endless maintenance on some old boat you can barely afford.
Then there is bad weather, cold and rainy winters even in the Caribe and constant headaces on making ends meet and paying bills you did not expect while you are hungry, but tired of soup and rice .

If you survive all that and still want to keep sailing, ya are certifiable crazy and would fit right in here in the lunatic-bin.

Aloha Trini,
Welcome aboard!! Hope you enjoy the forum. My recommendation is to learn a bit about sailing before buying anything in the smallest boat you can find. Sometimes people do it the other way around and buy before they learn. Kind of like buying a small aircraft before you learn how to fly?
I know there are lots of Sunfish sailboats down there that are very good training platforms for learning what wind does to sails and how to steer a boat.

Hi again and thanks for the welcome.

To Csyman well I am not a billionaire,but I do have all the time in the world,as far as sunsets go I have seen the most beautiful in India,maybe I should buy a plane instead it might be cheaper(just kidding).

to TXsailor I don't have a S.O ,maybe I can find one on my trip.LOL
To SkiprJohn,thanks for the advice,however if all else fails I shall have to think about pirateering a sailboat for myself,I am after all a true pirate from the Caribbean.
But in the meantime I will be going fishing tomorrow.

Yeah! A lot of people start out not knowing enough about sailboats. Or even anything about sailing.

I am one of those people. Eventhough I once served in the US Navy for 9 years.

But, like what SkiprJohn said. Try out a Sunfish boat. Or equilvant. And while you are doing that. Since you said you don;t know how to swim. make sure you are wearing a life vest (Life preserver).
