Hello from Tokyo!

Hi,

I'm an American living abroad in Tokyo.

I came here looking to solicit input from more experienced sailors on life choices related to boats I don't need but kinda want to have.

My prior ocean sailing experience is mostly related to charter fishing and fishing industry but only for a few years many years ago.

I will probably make posts in more relevant forums.

I am otherwise boring. I promise.

Delmarrey...I need to know the meaning of life! Should I consult the ops on here, or the ones atop mount Zanzibar? Mauritz

Why that's an awful long hike to ask questions when we can get all the answers here on the CF. I hope it's not about tires.

Re: Hello from Tokyo!

I'm mostly doing some life planning around the concept of not buying a house in Tokyo.

I feel like $900,000 could be better spent on a motorsailer I may live-aboard so I'm trying to find someone to tell me it isn't so and cherry picking the worst spots to do so.

For $900K you won't get much negative feedback about a motorsailer. What you will get is whether you can handle such a great boat.

Don't know what your experience is but a large investment into a nice boat can be devastating if one loses it due to ignorance. Which is the case in most sinking's,......... or tsunamis.

You will get some good advice here with the right people and sincere questions. It just takes a while to know who they are. Living aboard is a life style, not a recreation.

Re: Hello from Tokyo!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I can't tell you what life is all about because I haven't lived mine completely yet. I can tell you that life spent aboard a boat that you love doesn't count towards the number of years you actually live. So if you are destined to live until you are 100 and spend 20 years aboard you'll make it to 120.
Let me know if that works out for you.
Happy sailing!
kind regards,
