Talking Hello from the Netherlands :)

Hi guys!

My name is Martine, I'm a (43 yo) liveaboard from the Netherlands. Home sweet home is Lizzy Belle, an Ohlson 29 (which later became the better known Winga 29) which I share with a feline crew. Or maybe she's the one sharing the boat with me, I'm not entirely sure

Since I'm not a huge fan of Dutch winters (not cold enough for living on a boat, just very wet ) I hope to set sail for the coconuts in a couple of years. The general idea is to take my time sailing down the Spanish and Portugal coast before making the big leap to the Caribbean. After that, I have no idea. Let's get there first and see how life unfolds

Looking forward to getting to know you all a little better and learning from you all

- Martine

Welcome here! Sounds like a fun adventure you have planned! Do you know about the The Best Cruising Sailboats and Their Fundamental Qualities website. It's one by a man from the UK and it may have info about your boat, not sure. In any case it has a lot of useful tips on cruising and some info on boats made in your neck of the woods.

Thanks for the welcome!

And for the link, Don C L. Hadn't seen that website yet.

Very litle info on the Ohlson 29 out there; a little more on the Winga 29.

Hello! Welcome to CF and all the best on your cruising plans. Do you single-hand, too, or will you be looking for crew on your passages? I ask because I will be seeking warmer waters in the near future from the Pacific West Coast

That's something us solo sailors discuss a lot

There are a few very good reasons to look for crew, but ... it's a 29' boat. You have to REALLY get along to be able to live with someone on such a small boat for more than a day or two ...

Most people looking to crew like a bit of comfort and privacy too, and prefer 40+ foot boats, but I'd probably be able to find people willing to sail on a small boat too. The real challenge will be not wanting to kill each other after a few days

Completely agree. I know someone who returned from Hawaii with a companion on a Dana 24. It's something I struggle with because when there is crew on board, I'm very happy for all 36 feet and I can't imagine how that's going to work out after a week offshore.

Re: Hello from the Netherlands :)

Hello Martine,
Welcome to CF.
Earlier this year I bought my first Cruiser/ Racer in the Netherlands (Kats) and I'm going to keep it there at least for a couple of years while I gain some experience. I too have the dream of one day sailing to some distant shores.
Michael.

Egberts, welcome to CF

Unfortunately Martine hasn't been on the forum for nearly 4 years. However, there are lots of active members worldwide so feel free to ask away. If there is a particular area or type of yacht there are dedicated pages for these on the forum.
