Talking Hello From Tennessee...

Hello,

Just wanted to say hello and that we are really excited to find such a good source of information.

My husband, Bruce and myself have been cruising since our first trip down the Mississippi from Minneapolis to New Orleans. We were in a 24' Bayliner that was 20 years old. We left out with our charts and the Chapman's on my lap (I was learning boating!). We spent lots of time searching for parts and packing fuel.............and we were hooked. Since that trip we have done the Missouri River, the Tennessee, the Atchafalaya, the ICW west, the Tombigbee, parts of the Ohio and of course, the Mississippi several more times. We have upgraded our boat a few times since then and still get so excited when we think of all the possiblities. We do live in California so we boat for a month or so at a time and then go home to work and plan the next trip.

We were so luck to meet such wonderful people along the rivers that have been so helpful and taught me so much.

Thanks,

Darlene

Welcome Darlene,
I dont get to acces the site as much as I'd like right now, but for all the right reasons. Hope you find it as useful as we have and enjoy your cruising!

Welcome,

I lived a few blocks from Mississippi Lock and dam #1 for about 10 years and river are a quite enjoyable way to be on the water. We don't a a huge number of river folks but my experience tells me it's still boating. Please feel free to post some of your travels here for the folks that perhaps have not enjoy rivers as a way of Cruising. Most of my personal river experience is from a canoe with about 1000 miles. paddled. I always liked rivers even if I don't do it that often any more.

Thank you

Thanks for your reply. We are in New Johnsonville-Pebble Isle Marina. We have done the Tenn-Tom and the Tensaw several times. The part of the trip that we have never done is anything past Pensacola.

Truthfully, we are river cruisers and we are thinking about leaving the shore and running out in open water. I am thinking you would leave from around Dog Island and run across to near Clearwater. Is there a route that cruisers follow out there? Do you think that would be a good idea?

We are actually in a powerboat (deep blush). I saw that there was a powerboat forum before I realized everyone here is talking about sailing. We have about a 300 mile+ range.

Any other tips about going around Florida, we are thinking Okeechobee to save time this trip, would be appreciated.
