Hello from Stuart Florida

Hi Everyone! I am very excited to have registered for this site. I sail and race my Tartan 37 in and around Stuart Florida. I hope I can contribute, advise and support others as well as get answers to my many questions. My first, about anchors, ground tackle and windlasses will be posted somewhere appropriate I hope. Everyone have a great evening.

Howdy Jesse and Welcome Aboard CF!

Since you are new to this forum, let me mention a few things you might miss but that could help you more enjoy your time here:

WIKI
Take a look at the Cruising WIKI that is found via the tab up on the top menu bar of the forum. It has a LOT of information in it you might find fun, interesting, or helpful.
____________

You say you have questions...

Looking for Quick Answers?

This is the best and fastest method I have found to the answers I seek here.
Since you are relatively new to the forum, here is my favorite friendly forum search tip: Look at the green menu bar on the forum pages for the drop down "Search" menu. Click on that to drop down a list of search functions. From that drop down menu select the GOOGLE CUSTOM search feature (the second box down) and then enter several different descriptive terms for your topic of interest. That will do a Custom google search of ONLY this site and it is likely to find answers to your questions or results for you. Note: this is different from using the regular forum search box or field. Also note, this is NOT found if you use the CF app. It IS found if you use a web browser such as Safari, etc.

Hi Jesse, Tartans are really great boats.

I am planning to make Stuart my home port in 2016 and will live close by in Delray.

Could you give me a brief overview or even point me to info about what portion of the St Lucie River is sailable, I.e., depths, traffic, etc.? I'll be at Loggerhead or close by which puts the inlet 8 miles away. Sure would be nice to sail at least some of that distance or to know that I can stay inside if it's blowing too much offshore.

Thanks

Hi there. I like the pic of Santa traded in his sleigh for a hot sport boat, headed upwind past the A1A bridge piling.

What are water depths around the edges of the St Lucie River?

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

Edges are shallow... Especially at low tide... If you stick to the channels you'll have a good cruise... Channel runs 6 to 8 ' out to the inlet....

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

Hi RKsailsolo,

I think you'll enjoy sailing in the St. Lucie River. I am just west of u on the other side of the bridge. I often sail around the north fork with friends or with the local Sailing club. You can sail in the middle fork where you are as well. Our sailing club has weekly beer can races as well as monthly races and occassional local cruises/raft ups.

Feel free to pm me if you'd like more info about the area or the sailing club. Looks like there's a few forum members in the area so u should be able to get great feedback moving forward.

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

Ahoy StuartSailor and other around Stuart.

I'm looking at a job near Belle Glade. If successful, I'll move our Beneteau 393 to Florida, so am beginning to explore options from Ft. Myers, Port Charlotte to Stuart and West Palm Beach. Can you recommend a couple of marinas to explore in Stuart?

Thanks.

Mark

p.s. do you happen to know Tom Wells? He has a T37 and active on the T37 list.

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

Ahoy Mark. I am also checking out Stuart marinas. Loggerhead, sunset bay, Marriott Hutchinson island. Pirates cove has thin water and four face docks t are permanently leased. Search continues.

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

Hi Mark. Good luck in your marina search. rksailsolo sums up the area pretty well. I would add the Harbor Inn Marina and Deck Restaurant. Not as fancy as Sunset Bay Marina but with an old Florida feel. All depends on which side of the bridge you want to be on.

I do not know Tom Wells. I've gone on the T37 list a few times but it's not as active as cf.

Jesse, harbor inn is one that I have to check out. Thx. Stuart is a very cool town. We are looking forward to being part of the community.

I've been told that StLucie River north and south ( west of rr bridge) is sailable. What about the main body of water east of the trestle flowing to the ICW? For that matter, is the ICW north of the Marriott deep enough to tack across or is that all thin water except for the channel going north?

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

There are quite a few but the only one I'm famimiliar with is Manatee Marina. Great restaurants, bars, small town feel in Port Salerno. Love this place!

Re: Hello from Stuart Florida

Rksailsolo,

The middle fork is sailable but skinny at the edges especially at low tide as curious Sailor mentioned in an earlier post. But you can tack east of the Roosevelt Bridge up towards the Evans Crary Bridge. Wind direction will determine if you can sail to the inlet (probably motor sail) but you'll need to stay in the channel to get there.

Same can be said for north of the Mariott.
