Hello from So. Oregon

Hello from So. Oregon by way of So. Cal. I have been sailing for about 40+ years. Prior to coming to Oregon I lived on and sailed a Pearson Countess 44. Now I just trailer sail a Catalina 22. I used to sail the Newport to Ensenada race and the Catalina over and back races. I look forward to the wealth of information that I see on this Forum.

I am an Oregonian also although I reside in Washington now. My first boat was a Catalina 22 and I have many great memories of it. I sailed it out of Newport bay into the ocean once. This is a great forum and has a wealth of info to offer.

More than 90% of my sailing has been in other parts of the world other than Oregon. My wife and I are located in So. Oregon *south of Grants Pass). We take our Catalina 22 to Howard Prairie Lake above Ashland, OR, step the mast and sail for whatever time we want (usually the weekend). Put the boat in the parking lot with mast stepped and then return when we want. It saves hauling the boat up a 13 miles climb into the mountains. They have a yacht club at the Lake so would like to participate in any races they have. I will be crewing in the Newport to Ensenada race this April. I do miss living on my Pearson Countess 44 (don't tell my wife).

I remember seeing the Cavemen in a parade at Grants Pass when I was a youngster. What a gang! Oregon Caves are a well kept secret.
I too owned a Catalina 22 (fin keeler) that I used to sail and stay aboard here in Hawaii many years ago. Great boat.

My wife and I are located in Selma which is about 9 mi. north of Cave Junction. Cave Junction ia a Metropolis in comparison to Selma. On the frontage of Selma we have approx. 6 or 7 businesses.
SkiprJohn, you are right, it is a good boat but you sure need the Pop-Top option to have any sort of head room.

Yes Mike mine was a pop top. Came in handy when I was 6' 1". I'm now at the shrinking age. The standard pop top had no option to tie it down securely so I rigged a system much like that on the hood of an old car just to lock it in place. When going out into the Pacific I always had thoughts of a knockdown and that top loosening.
Great little boat.
I've been through Selma but it has been so many years ago that I can't remember much about it. I'm originally from Salem (same letters, different order) and left there in the early 60s when I joined the Navy.
The weather has been rainy here the last couple of days, kinda like Oregon from time to time just not as cold. Gets in the high 70s during the day.
