HELLO FROM SINGAPORE

Finally jumped in and purchased a boat in Langkawi. I will be sailing it down to Singapore late August early September.

Howdy and Welcome Aboard CF Kicka!

Congratulations on getting your new boat!

And that is a NICE one. In fact, I believe I looked at that one (online) several times and each time thought: "I wish I could get THAT boat!"

It looks like a nicely designed boat and I was impressed (even after looking at thousands of boats over the last few years).

I have not checked into it yet, but would like to know how long it takes to sail/motor from Langkawi to Singapore. If you get a moment, please reply with the estimate of distance/time here.

This is the best and fastest method I have found to the answers I seek here.
Since you are relatively new to the forum, here is my favorite friendly forum search tip: Look at the green menu bar on the forum pages for the drop down "Search" menu. Click on that to drop down a list of search functions. From that drop down menu select the GOOGLE CUSTOM search feature (the second box down) and then enter several different descriptive terms for your topic of interest. That will do a Custom google search of ONLY this site and it is likely to find answers to your questions or results for you. Note: this is different from using the regular forum search box or field. Also note, this is NOT found if you use the CF app. It IS found if you use a web browser such as Safari, etc.

Re: HELLO FROM SINGAPORE

Hi Steady Hand
We sailed from Singapore to Thailand a few months back and to get to Langkawi took us approx 6 days with an overnighter in Admirals Marina, the rest of the trip was on the hook.

We took our time and only sailed during daylight.

Re: HELLO FROM SINGAPORE

Thanks for the info steady hand. As TOT said I have heard 5-6 days just sailing/motoring during the day. Just over 300 nm I think. I will be able to give some real world experience to your question in a few weeks!

Re: HELLO FROM SINGAPORE

Hi and welcome. We found the tide a big help south of Pangkor, just remember the current changes direction about 4 hrs after the tide change. Anyway that was our experience going north, and returning to pangkor recently we went against the current and it was a long day from Penang. Cheers

Re: HELLO FROM SINGAPORE

I made the trip Solo from Langkawi to Singapore. It took me 6 full days of motoring. If I had wind it was directly on the nose and I had some time constraints so I couldn't afford to put up the sails if it wasn't faster than motoring. The current was a huge help and a huge hindrance but again since I was by myself I motored during the day and slept on the hook at night instead of taking full advantage of the current in my favor. My auotopilot was not working so I had to hand steer the whole way which I would prefer to never do again but live and die by technology. I'm sure it wont be the last time. But no pirates and mostly good weather even though Often had some Sumatras blow in in the evening.

Anchorages were as follows:

Langkawi Rebak marina-->Palau Kendi(just south of Penang Island)-->Palau Pankor-->Klang-->Palau Besar(just south of Malaka)-->Palau Pisang then Singapore
