Hello all,

I stumbled across this site looking for "the boat'. Seems like lots of good information and people.
We are looking at the Fountaine Mahe 36. Any opinions or experiences would be welcome.

I've taken a couple of views at shows and it was my choice. Price forces me to go secound hand. Try the MAHE thread. There are a lot of trans atlantic deliveries now completed with no issues to my knowledge.
There have been queries about the standard of electrics and the helm seat falling over. This is a boat built to a price. If you have experience I would suggest collecting her yourself and hiring a skipper. The manufacturers welcome visitors, you'll read several reports when you browse around.
We were looking for a two person live aboard with roon for guests. We wouldn't plan to get involved in heavy weather but I was concerned about going for'rd to tend foresail and main.
We've settled on an old Prout 34 that has cockpit based sailing with deck work restricted to fixing things and maintenance. See Two's Company, a fifty foot cat on sale in the UK at the same price with PBH Multihull's. A lot more boat and a lot more stability. Try Multihullworld as well if only as an information gathering exercise.

You make a good point regarding the rigging. I've been more focused on the layout and livability issues.

The not too old Prout's copy the original design with the galley in the starboard hull.
Because the bridge deck is low the saloon floor is low so the cook can join in with cabin discussions readily.
Slamming is reduced by a centre nacelle which also carries tankage etc.
There are some original snow geese around at good prices but they have a lower coach roof and old style windows. Superb and fast safe sailors but a dark interior.
See the Event34's for a greenhouse style interior more suited to live aboard.
What are your plans, duration of cruisers / stays aboard?
