Hello From San Diego

I am a new sailor and have been taking classes for nearly a year. I have had experience on a 36 catalina and am still learning on a Hobie 14 at the Crown Cove Aquatic center in Coronado.

I plan to get ASA certified and also some cruising in the future.

Just wanted to say hello.

Welcome abaord. I LOVE San Diego. Lived there 7 years, I was a power boater then with a slip in Oceanside, but lots of great diving, mako fishing, and weekend trips to Catalina. Wish I could afford to live there in retirement.

catamaran vs single hull

How did you decide on the catamaran vs a single hull? The fishing here is great. Kayak fishing has taken off here big time. We have had several tournaments and have had 180-190 kayaks show up.

Why a Cat? It's a long story. I'll get back to you with a fuller version.

Aloha Buddha,
Welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy this forum as much as I do. I lived in San Diego in the 70s and 80s and really enjoyed it. I used to sail out of Fiddlers Cove along the strand and sailed into Coronado many times. The Navy used to have a really active Naval Sailing Club at that time and I did lots of teaching and racing on all their boats up to Luders 44 yawls. What a great time.
Regards, --JohnL--

skipper john

There is a new water sports facility just south of Fiddler's Cove called the Crown Cove Center. It is run by Southwestern College and offers kayaking, outrigger canoe, surfing, and sailing classes. My instructor is a racer at the Coronado Yacht club and has won many races.

The best part of all is that I only pay 36 bucks for an entire semester and can go to any other class at the center also.

I fish that area of Fiddler's cove all the time.

Aloha Buddha,
Glad to hear that area is being used as a sailing center too. My first college classes were at Southwestern, my daughter graduation from there and San Diego State. I'm also a San Diego State grad. Fun times there.
