Hello from Richmond , VA

Visited the sight a few times, now a member. Preparing to live aboard. Leaving out of St Lucia at end of September, going south, weather permitting, to Margarita island, Bonaire etc... For the season then to US in November - February. Look forward to lots of reading time. Welcome any and all suggestions, places to hole up, anchorages and places to avoid.

Bill

Re: Hello from Richmond, VA

Yes Bill, welcome to the forum! As I am sure you are aware, when heading south from St. Lucia it is best to avoid the west coast of St. Vincent and, while thefts are up in Bequia, Admiralty Bay is still reasonably safe (although it a good idea to get to know some neighbouring boats and set up a boat watch). The rest of the Grenadines are pretty safe, as is Grenada. In terms of Isla Margarita, a very cheap place to get supplies (the island is duty free) and there are some large supermarkets within cab distance of the harbour in Porlamar. Again, set up a 'neighbourhood watch', lift up and chain your dinghy at night, don't wear expensive jewelry/watches and take some care at night in Porlamar (it is a relatively large city with all the problems that entails).

Enjoy!

Thanks Brad. Ive been through St Vincent, Bequia and to Canuan (?) couple times. Glad to say never a problem but have heard of some. I will heed your advice and secure dinghy and look forward to hooking up with fellow cruisers.
