Hello from Panama City Beach, Florida

My name is Wayne, I have dreams of selling out, moving aboard, and circumnavigating, which I think are high expectations for a land lubbing former chicken farmer. My only boat experience prior to moving to Florida was an aluminum 14' John boat used for freshwater fishing. (I had paddles and a trolling motor). Some friends and my wife hooked me up with some guys at Saint Andrews Bay Yacht Club who needed some dead weight for local races. Next weekend we are in a 30 mile race from Panama City to Port St. Joe, I am very excited. I am finally getting a chance to sail out in the Gulf for some length of time. As you can tell, I have been bitten by the sailing bug due to reading Annie Hill's book Voyaging on a Small Income. Her descriptions of sailing on the junk rig Badger has inspired my imagination, although the austerity she speaks of may be difficult for me to implement. I still have a lot to learn, I am looking forward to learning from those of you with experience.

Re: Hello from Panama City Beach, Florida

Welcome to the forum weekend you're going to find out just how easy sailing actually is....seamanship takes a bit more time....but no magic there either.
Let us know how the race goes...and dont forget to stay after and help put the boats bits and pieces away. This will go miles in getting you invited back.
Have fun.

I love my boat, I can't afford not to!
