Also, I respect a fellow merchant mariner, as you stated wanting to get into the academy. I'm a grad of CMA and put my time in break bulk, container, and most recently, drill ships (rigs).

Good luck, keep us posted here at CF.

Re: Hello from Panama

Ahh that's not the exact route I had in mind, my father has been Captain of those type of ships for a long time, and the money seemed allright. My ultimate dream is to have a fleet of Sailing Cargo Vessels under my command, surpressing the uprising of high emission cargo ships. Thus my motivation to enroll in the Seafaring School of Enkhuizen. Allthough I do admit, after have being aboard one of these huge cargo ships, that it must require quite some skill to operate.
I'm off for my Happy Hour beer. Cheers and will keep posted.

Re: Hello from Panama

Green to boot, I'm liking this guy. I hope to at least for pleasure cruising, go electric propulsion. I have read where there is now one sailing cargo ship, hope in the future you are able to add to that number. After my misunderstanding, if I was in Panama, the beers would be on me.

You could always handle a few lines for cash and take a bus to Honduras to meet your uncle, would be very interesting I suspect

Re: Hello from Panama

I can't find the "stranded in Panama" thread. What's up with that?

I've met Bas ( pronounced" boss") here in Shelter Bay. Great guy. Know his story, even gave him a temporary bunk on my boat. I was hoping to see what advice the wise folks here on CF had for him. But where's the thread!

Can we hear from a moderator about this please?

I hope so . But I would caution against going too far in the search for amicable at the cost of shooting self in foot. But SEP .

IMO that thread coming back (eventually) would be useful for others, even if only as a caution.

@flysci
I found it best to get the thread deleted. I'll see you at 9

@david
eventually, i like that word. after all is settled I might write a short story to caution against this.

I hope you do write a post match report (when all is 100% sorted!) - it's all about putting into the pot .

And by getting your ducks in a row, you will be able to write that story from the comfort of any place other than a 3rd world slammer. Glad you dropped into CF and made the connection with atoll, our resident A to Z cruiser. Atoll was portrayed by the actor Kurt Russell a few years back. lol

Re: Hello from Panama

@simonv: thankyou, hope I won't need luck though.
@david: well I wouldn't want anyone else having to go through this, if writing about my experience can prevent any similar happenings in the future, that'd be great.
@deckofficer: once I'm in Honduras I'll write it, might be a 3rd world country but I'll be with 1st class people. Don't really get the actor joke, a few years ago I decided to sell my TV and never watch again. Atoll has been very helpful as well though.

Re: Hello from Panama

from experiance,i would advise all parties involved not to let this go to the next level.

as once the immigration get involved they will probably issue arrest warrants for the captain and any crew unaccounted for from the vessel.

the next thing that will happen once all the crew members are in custody is the captain will get a large fine,your passports will be stamped "persona non grata" and if you are lucky given 24hours to leave panama waters,and not come back......for at least 5 years.

it is really not advisable to flout a countries laws no matter how laid back it may seem...
