Hello, from Ontario Canada

Hello I am new to the forums, I started sailing about 5 years ago. I love sailing and I'm always looking to learn more. My fiance and I bought a Mirage M26 1978. We had an interesting first year, a few trips to Toronto from our home port in Port Dalhousie. Getting caught in a squall off of Toronto Island (this was just after we watched the fleet in the Lake Ontario 300 go past us). Thankfully no major damage to the vessel or its occupants lol. If anyone has some threads they'd recommend I'd love to know about them. Looking forward to exploring the site and hopefully learning a lot and meeting some fellow enthusiasts. In the future my fiance and I plan to travel farther a field from our home port. Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some suggestions.

That was one hell of a cell that shot through. Took out a lot of the LO300 fleet and a C-Class winged cat.

Re: Hello, from Ontario Canada

Welcome aboard:

I have a Mirage 27, which as you know is almost identical to your 26, but for the reversed transom. We sail from Toronto Hydroplane and Sailing Club in Toronto.

You might want to take a look at the Mirage/Kirby group on Yahoo; lots of info and some good advice. Also, there's a saildrive group on Yahoo that is largely concerned with the care and feeding of the OMC.

Not that I'm directing you to another site, at all at all.

Re: Hello, from Ontario Canada

I was in the Port Dalhousie boat yard this winter. I probably walked past your boat. Here's the proof.

Hard to miss, that one.

Anyway, if you got through those squalls (which I presume you took at first on the beam) in a Mirage 26, you are a promising sailor in a decent boat. I was in that race, and the last squall was stronger than anything I've seen on the Atlantic. Sounded like the Daytona 500 run with 18 wheelers filled with wind chimes and marbles.

Welcome aboard from yet another Canadian. Currently based in the UK but still saying "Go Habs Go!!!" You came to the right place for help, advice, and fun. Great bunch of people. Now, since your Moping Loafs missed out on the playoff's this year, I'm hoping you'll be following the Habs...James
