Hello from Ontario, Canada

Hello, everyone.

My name is Kirk. I live in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada.

I have spent the winter looking for my first sailboat and finally decided on one today. I just bought a 30 foot Islander. I pick it up on Saturday. That gives me a few months to do some minor work and get ready for my first season of sailing.

The boat needs some TLC but appears to be structurally sound.

Any way, I just spent most of the day reading through the many posts on this form and thought I would introduce myself.

A friendly hi

Hi

I've just joined the forum too and it's interesting reading about everyone and their boats. What kind of boat is an Islander 30 and where do you intend to sail. Have visited Canada a couple of times to go skiing and it was fantastic.

Welcome to the forum! I look forward to hearing about your sailing adventures. It would be great to hear about your work on the islander as well. Pick out a name yet?

Welcome,I to am new to the forum and I just bought my first boat in 09. She's a
1970 Hughes 29 her name is Quicksilver VI. What area do you plan to
sail? If it's anywhere near Kingston we might see each other and have
a wobblie or two.

Thanks for the hellos

I live on lake Erie so most of my sailing will be there. My Future goal is to sail to Nova Scotia. I think I need a couple years first before I try that though.

The boat is called Zephyr now. Once it is refinished I want to name it the Nauti Adventure. I own a company called Adventurous Singles so it would be only fitting.

The Zephry is a 1972 and one of the owners spent allot of time fixing it up. The interior is not bad. The exterior wood work has been neglected though. I am taking the next couple of months ans stripping all of the woodwork and hardware off, painting the deck and reinstalling the hardware. The teak is turning out to be in pretty good shape after sanding it down, considering it has been neglected for 6 years.

The boat is generally sound. I have not found any major problems yet, but I have only had it for a couple days now, so time will tell. It is still snowing and cold here so I have some time. I plan on launching May 1st.

How fortunate you are to be living and working so close to your boat.
I work on Baffin Isl and have only two turnarounds in the summer 2 week
each but when Iam done in the Fall I hope to take her for one last sail.

Lake Erie will be included in my next big adventure and that will be to sail
through the Welland canel then over to Georgian Bay where the boat
will likely stay. The bay being my most favourite area of all the lakes.

G'day Cpt Kirk,
Always great to congratulate a new owner and glad to see you're enjoying the part of sailing we all like to forget about - maintaining the boat. By the time you finish you'll know every nook and cranny and understand every creak and groan she makes.
Great stuff.
Enjoy and sail safe
JOHN
