Hello from Ohio

Hello everyone. My wife and I used to own a 32ft Catamaran (Catfisher) sailboat which we sadly had to sell in the mid 90's. Since then I have just been sailing on a local lake in a 19 ft West wight Potter. However, retirement time is fast approaching and I am looking for another catamaran or a trawler that my wife and I could live on to do the loop and travel up and down the east coast, perhaps to the Bahamas and the Caribbean. We have a limited budget but would value any advice that I could get.

Hi Werners and welcome to the forum! There are many people here who are knowledgeable about cats and will be more than happy to exchange their thoughts on a boat that might suit your need and budget.

Judging from your previous boat (a catfhisher) and your current one, you are somewhat less concerned about performance than with solid construction. Or, having owned boats that were not performance oriented, have you changed your priorities?

Regardless, there are numerous threads discussing the type of boat that I suspect you are interested in. If your budget is restricted and you are looking for a coastal cruising catamaran for the two of you, you might want to search for threads into the Gemini, the PDQ 32 and various of the other British built cats of the 70's and 80's including Prouts, Catalacs and Solaris. They British ones will have the sturdy construction that I suspect appealed to you in your Catfisher, but typically a bit more performance (in some cases, quite a bit more). The Gemini's have a huge following and good accomodation and quite decent performance - although their construction is certainly less solid than their British cousins. The PDQ 32 was well built and is a more modern design than the others, albeit typically at a highr price. And of course if you loved her, there are still some Catfishers on the market from time to time.

Cheers!

Brad

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Aren't those WWP 19s great little boats? Our club has one and it has been a great boat for fun and instruction.
kind regards,
