Hello from Ohio!

I just found this forum after watching some Youtube videos of people sailing around the Caribbean and the world. A lot of my family boats (powerboats on lakes mostly) and I have always loved spending time on/in the water. So I guess it shouldn't be surprising that I've set myself a goal/series of goals that should have enough money to buy a ocean worthy sailboat in the next 4-5 years. Unfortunately I know very little about sailing (aside from not letting yourself get smacked in the head with boom) but I hope I'll learn/research enough so when I have the cash I can hit the water.

Until then I'll keep the newb posts to a minimum and in the correct threads!

Re: Hello from Ohio!

Greetings from another Ohio boy - grew up on a farm outside Jeffersonville - what is your time frame? have you ever been on a sail boat - sounds like you have not. Take a southern vacation and take a ASA 101 sailing course just to see what sailing is about - just a little bit and see if it is for you.
then see if there are sailing clubs on the lakes there - and join the clubs - take a bit more of ASA courses

We did that a bunch of years ago - and have been full time cruisers for 9 years now. it is a great life style.

good luck and let us know if we can help
