Hello from New Zealand

Hi,
I'm in NZ now, but aiming to get to the US in the next three months to look for a boat. I'd like either: something small I can sail from the east to the west coast through the Panama Canal, then sell, or, a liveaboard I can bring back here (NZ).

If anyone can direct me to a thread where I can discuss the legalities and coast guard requirements of leaving US waters I would be grateful.

Many thanks,

Colin

Welcome to the forum,
Texas and Florida, I think have the best prices. What is your idea of small?
Good luck on your boat search...the hard part is picking just one

This has been discussed a lot on a NZ based forum. My preference - look for a NZ built boat lying in th eUS or Carib. Sail it home downwind and no duty or GST on arrival . They are around if you look far enough. I saw a Cav 39 on Yachtworld recently.
