Hello from New England- With a Boat Question

Hi,
I'm shawn and I have a 1970s Cal21. It isn't big enough for the girl, myself and 4 kids. I would like a boat which has a lot of cockpit, and minimal cabin space. I would like trailerable, but don't need it. Is there a under 30' boat that will fit all of us comfortably above decks?
Thank you!!!
Shawn

An Alberg designed Ensign. Big cockpit - small cuddy cabin. 23' long. Great sailing boat. Trailering is possible but challenging.

Consider a Norsea 27. Awesome mini yacht. It is trailerable as well if you have a big truck/van.

27' Tartan. Biggest boat with shoal draft I could trailer. 8'6" beam. Street legal.

Howdy!

The question you posed would be best posted in the forum here for fleet/monohull, so I suggest looking for that forum and reporting your search question.

In addition, posting your budget for the boat helps others provide suggestions that my fit your budget.

For example, one boat I found very nice for mostly day sailing that thas a large cockpit and shallow draft and looks great for family sailing is the ComPac yachts Horizon catboats series. These are monohulls.

Good luck.

Re: Hello from New England- With a Boat Question

Soverel 28(MORC version). Has an enormous, and I mean enormous, cockpit. And a cabin that's practically a v-berth with a tiny head, limited galley and two longish 1/4 berths. About 10 years ago, when I looked at one for sale, I measured it's cockpit's lenght. Came out to about 14', 1/2 boat's length. Two people could have stretched out comfortably on each side. Too bad I didn't move fast enough as I thought that it's age (early 70s) will make it s low seller. It was gone within a week. Supposedly only about 90 were made so it may be a bit tough finding one but definitely worth restoring even if in rough shape as this model has a cockpit conducive to lots of guests and entertainment.
