Hello from Napier, NZ

Hi everybody, I'm Max, 20 and new in this lovely forum. 20? yes.
I've only been sailing once, and that was just around the Bay of Islands, but still enough to become passionate about experiencing more!
I'm originally from Germany, but I'm definetely thinking about travelling the world, before I hopefully find the right place for me to settle down.
I'd really like to see the Pacific Islands, and was woundering if the
"Crew Positions: Wanted & Available" is the right place to keep an eye on.
Is it likely to find sailors in there, who are actually leaving NZ to sail to one of the islands, and maybe afterwards to Australia, and who are looking for unpaid positions? Given the fact, that I barely have no experience, is there still a possibility for me to become part of a crew?

Hello Max. The crew wanted site is a good place to keep an eye on. Also put up a notice about your details at local yacht clubs in new Zealand. They generally have notice boards. In terms of experience, everybody has to start somewhere and you may well find a skipper willing to teach you in return for your assistance. If you get a ride it is important that you are willing and keen to learn, help out with the general work around the boat and are polite to the skipper and other crew. Good luck with your search for a berth. You are a young man and sailing is a very good skill to learn.

Have a look at <www.crew.org.nz> they have a forum for wanting to crew / crew wanted etc.

Welcome to CF. Summer is on the way in NZ and is an ideal time to gain experience. Visit a local yacht club and see if you can get a crewing position on any size yacht.....small is a good way to start. Also you may find it helpful to take a course to add to your experience.....experience is the best but a course can help iron out errors and teach the navigation skills you will eventually need.
