Hello from Michigan

I've been reading this site for some time so I thought it was time to join and make it official. Lot's of great info on here.

I have a 2001 Beneteau 473. I know there's a love hate relationship on here regarding Beneteau's but for what we want it suits us well. We're Great Lakes sailors on Lake Michigan and not very interested in going beyond that.

I have a lake house in Northwest Michigan were I also keep a Macgregor 26s on an inland lake. Not the 26M powerboat with a mast but the 26 classic with a 9.9 outboard. It's great for use on the smaller lake.

I also have some power boats (I love boats) for water sports on the inland lake but that's the subject for another forum.

That's about it. Thanks for sharing all the knowledge and advice on this forum. It's a great resource.

Re: Hello from Michigan

Hello No Salt, nice to see another Great Lakes sailor on here. I'm based out of Thunder Bay Ontario, so we spend most of our time on Lake Superior. I've never gone down to L. Michigan yet, but perhaps next season. Anyway, welcome to CF.

P.S. Nice boat .

Re: Hello from Michigan

The first big water sailing I ever did was out of Pentwater, Michigan, where I spent summers as a kid. I look forward to cruising the Great Lakes some day. Welcome aboard.

Hi NoSalt, and welcome! Northport, MI (near Traverse City) is still our hailing port and holds a special place in our memories, though we've traded the "sweetwater sea" for the U.S. East Coast and Bahamas ... its warmer.

Welcome aboard! My first boating experiences were on Lake Michigan - Winthrop Harbor IL - I had a lot of fun sailing there.

Hello No Salt,
We are pretty similar. I'm in Kzoo and have a cabin in Ludington. I grew up in Macatawa.

The Great Lakes are fantastic but personally I think they are best with a 28 to 32 foot powerboat.

Have a great winter, as soon as it gets started.

Very familiar with Northport. We were thinking of building a place in Suttons Bay before we bought the lake house just South of Traverse City (Interlochen). Sailing on the Bay is outstanding. I have the Beneteau further south however on the West Coast of MI since I live and work there. We do plan to retire "up North". I know it's cold and lots of snow in the Winter but we like that too!

Thanks! It's hard to beat Lake Michigan, except when it starts to freeze.

Went to school in Kazoo, great town. I did the powerboat thing on Lake Michigan years ago. It's better than being on shore but unless you fish just driving the boat around didn't do it for us.

Let's hope for some decent snow this year. Anxious to get the snowboard out.

Thanks. I've heard good things about the North Shore of Superior. Have only been to the Michigan side so far.

Re: Hello from Michigan

Hi from the Lake Huron side (Bay City/Saginaw).

I used to camp a lot in Petoskey in the Summer and would love to cruise that area during the Summer time.

Re: Hello from Michigan

Welcome NO SALT. We sail or Camper Nicholson 58 out of Muskegon. We plan to leave for the tropics by the St Lawrence in two years. We will be NO HOUSE, NO TAX.

Where do you sail from? There are a lot of channel connected lakes on the W coast. I was guessing Charlivoix. Have you cruised the North Channel yet?
