Hello from Miami Beach !

Hello Cruisers. I am happy to be accepted to this group and hope to not only contribute but learn. We are grateful that we were spared Irene's wrath here in Florida but we are praying for you guys further up north. I hope all of you are heeding the warnings and prepare well! Rather be safe than sorry! We lived in the Caribbean for many years and lived through at least 10 serious hurricanes and have never lost a boat (our own or from our charter fleets) because I believe that we planned and prepared well in advance! No reason to panic but be careful...and on that note...I hope I don't sound like a know-it-all!

Re: Hello from Miami Beach!

No magic formula- just proper planning and preparation prevents a p... You know the drill...remove sails, tie down boom, secure halyards and flying objects, ducktape potential leaks, i.e. windows, air vents etc. double up the lines, prepare chafe gear and study the likely wind patterns and prepare accordingly. If at anchor, be sure of your ground tackle and have ample swing room or find a good mangrove swamp!
