Hello From MI But Dream of the Bahamas...

Hello - we currently live in Michigan and frequently vacation in the Bahamas Out Islands. We've met many cruisers in the Bahamas over the years and think that this might be a realistic option for my wife and I as we approach retirement for 3 - 4 months of the year (Bahamas liveaboards during snowbird season) and the balance of the year in MI.

Current thoughts are around used 35 - 45 ft Powercats (Leopard, Lagoon, PDQ, etc.) since our interests are likely island hopping, fishing, and snorkeling/scuba diving.

The content in the forum is great for newbies like us and looking forward to participating in some of the forum threads.

Re: Hello From MI But Dream of the Bahamas...

We often jump across to the Bahamas, usually from Ft. Lauderdale, during the "snowbird season". I think there might be an advantage to keeping the vessel you describe in a protected place during the hurricane season on the Florida East Coast and then make the crossing for your season in the Bahamas. Cruising permit extentions and import taxes, etc. complicate the chocie of keeping the vessel permanently in the Bahamas.
