Hello From MI

Name is Robert Compton, live in Belleville, MI . 39 years old.
New to sailing but not boating, had a powerboat for years, gone with a divorce and now remarried.

Getting into sailing, heading to the USVI in april for a Instant Bareboater Class.
ASA 101, 103 and 104.

Looking to buy a boat this summer for lake erie to get some sail time in. Wife and I have 3 year plan set to move the the USVI and live onthe hook. So the more I know before I go the better it will be, so thats why I'm here.

Looking for any sailing parnters in the area, willing to pay my way for any crew jobs and I do home building and handyman services so my winters are slow.

looks like a lot of good info here on this forum, thanks for hosting it.

Welcome aboard tallyhorob. This is the place to be if you need info. Take advantage of the wonderful search feature (above on the blue bar) to find out most anything you want! Good luck with your plans. Ironically, while you're in USVI for the class in April, my wife, daughter & I will be taking 101, 103 & 104 in Key Largo (live aboard for a week and get certified). Will have to compare notes about the classes when we get back. Take care!

I'm going with Fairwinds sailing out of St. Thomas.

They are also based up here in MI, on lake Erie and St. Clare.

One week of live aboard, really sat- friday with Saturday getting the boat ready.

My cousin and his brother took a 101 and 103 on lake erie and I had a deal worked out to charter the boat for the week with a Capt. and cert all 3 of us, al the way to 104 and take the wives along too. But they decided not to go due to work and etc.

So, I'm heading out there and will see how it goes.

Have to decided what boat to buy for a liveaboard for my wife and I. Hope to find someone who has done it down there and can give some info on it.

Tallyhorob,
I live near Kalamazoo, I know that these winters can be tough, but glad to have you here.
