Hello from Melbourne soon to be Darwin
Hello all, I have been reading these forums for over 3 years now, gleaning alot of knowledge before finally taking the plunge and purchasing a cruising yacht.
I`ve finally taken the plunge and bought a Westsail 33 (Australian Built Westsail) for a great price. After 4 months of travelling all over Aust looking at lots of over priced junk, this one appeared out of the blue and met my needs.
So a big hi to this community!
Simon

Welcome. I am very curious about your 33. Usually westies are 32, so it must be an interesting modification to the norm

Re: Hello from Melbourne soon to be Darwin
Hey Salty,
The Australian build is a little different, choice of ketch or cutter rig sloop, choice of traditional cabin or pilothouse. The main differences are the rudder and lack of boomkin and bumpkin on the Aussie version. Rudder is made for ease of use with wheel steering and duel steering on the Pilothouse version. Build quality and lay up is much the same.

I will either be on the hard at Darwin Yacht Club in Fanny Bay, or I`ll be out the front in the water. I`m heading the opposite way, heading down to Brissie, but might have to wait till Oct for the trades to swing around.

Congrats! It gives me hope. I've also been looking at Aussie junk for the last 6 months now. Glad to hear there's still a good boat to be found in Australia for a decent price.
Feel free to let me know if you hear of another!

Hey Aussie,
Just keep plodding m8, what are you looking for exactly? Nice little Swanson 28 just dropped to 30k that looks allright in sydney.
Cheers

I would not wait that long if you intend to sail. Unlike some previous years the weather for the northern coast is just perfect now.

You didn't look at my little piece of Aussie junk. Nice little Compass 29 on Lake Macquarie eventually went for $20K. Beat that!
