Hello from Manchester, UK

Ahoy Cruisers,
I'm 52, and i live in Manchester, UK where I am a doctor. i don't own a boat (yet!) but i learned sailing from my father who did own a yacht, though she had gone by the time my brother and I arrived. We learned on dighies in Littlehampton Sailing Club and later had wonderful flotilla holidays in the Greek Islands.
Now I charter / crew for a week or two a year. For the last few years, Helen (wife) and I have been tall ship crew on Lord Nelson and Tenacious. I would love to be on the circumnavigation voyage which set sail on Trafalgar Day last week.
I've recently joined the Manchester Cruising Association and plan to devote more time to sailing in preparation for the big R!
I'm really impressed with the wealth of knowledge and opinion shared here and looking forward to becoming part of this community.

Mike

Welcome to CF Mike.
Sailing dinghies and chartering is a perfect way to start.
When is the big R planned?

Re: Hello from Manchester, UK

Nigel, that is true. I've been thinking about volunteering my services to them....just worried I might sink the boat! lol

Hi Mike

I'm originally from Liverpool but now, when in the UK, Worcester. Right now I'm sitting out Hurricane Sandy on my boat in Charleston, South Carolina. I spent many years chartering but did eventually own a boat and doing a circumnavigation when I was just a couple of years older than you are now.
