hello from Malaysia

First time on this forum, but have been sailing solo for the last 12 years on my 1982 steel ketch, a Bruce Roberts 36' (actually 37' or 11.26 m) cruising up and down the Queensland coast for 8 years before crossing to Darwin and leaving from there to sail up to Malaysia via Indonesia's Java sea, presently in Terengganu, NE Malaysia waiting for NE monsoon to arrive and go, then continue to sail south again, destination unsure as yet. Thank you for welcome.

Re: hello from Malaysia

sailing in SE Asia, specially under 5 degrees north, can be very frustrating, as the wind is not that reliable, but if you get it right, you can have a very good sail......
Just completed the trip from Pulau Tioman to Terengganu (approx 180 miles) at an average speed of just under 5 knots, best sail in 4 years in this area
In contrast, from Kumai (SW Borneo) to east coast Malaysia, about 600 miles took 24 days, at times going backwards or having to go off course to dodge squalls.

Re: hello from Malaysia

well, was having a lot of problems on that trip, lack of fuel, motor difficult to start and batteries that would not keep their charge, so had to keep sailing to keep fuel for the crossing of Singapore strait
