G'day, Mate, from the other side of the Tasman. You will be ready to give that bank account a break no doubt. 110 volt AC Sea Recovery desalinator here, so can't give you any input on the Spectra. Cheers.

I would really like to get down Tassie for the Wooden Boat show at Hobart in February. It seems like a good time to do Bass straight?
No doubt the “big sailaway” won’t be too harsh after having spent time cruising those parts?

If I do make it we will have to catch up? It’s still definitely on my list of priorities. I love Hobart and I am sure there will be heaps of boats similar to mine there I can get ideas and inspiration from. At the moment I am tossing up between sailing or just flying down for a few days. Biggest issue will be if I get a job that restricts my movements. Might have to warn them early!

Re,Water makers.
Reading the forums, it sounds like the SPECTRA is a bit of a standout, the question is,,do i start looking to buy one here in OZ, or the USA.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I don't have any experience with watermakers so can't help with that one. Its good to have you here. Try a different thread other than meets and greets and you might get more information.
kind regards,

G'day SS and PK,
We too are on our way to Hobart for the festival. Starting in Cairns wasn't a really good plan, but there ya go. We're in Gladstone for a couple of days and then will take up the cudgel and start beating our way south again. Hope to see you both down there!
cheers,
Jim and Ann s/v Insatiable II lying Gladstone Qld, Oz southbound

G'Day Guys,
Enjoy the sail south and welcome to the forum.
Re costs of kit US v EU v Oz - think you'll be surprised how much better value you'll get on most things in the US over EU or Oz.
We installed a Karadyn Pure 80 whilst the boat was in Spain, but purchased it via ebay from West Marine and even with shipping and import duties etc, it was still nearly 50% of EU shop cost.
I'd suggest you try and do the same or simply buy bottled water until you get closer to the US................
