I am in the process of buying a Pacific SeaCraft 31 Mariah (1978). Would anyone out there provide a reasonable estimate of the mast weight for mast stepping purposes? Thanks

Should be under 400 lbs, maybe close to 300. I moved the mast from my 42' Pearson with 5 people. It was about the max we could lift so estimated that one at 500-600 lbs.

I’d guess something between 3 lbs. - 4 lbs per foot of length; so almost certainly under 200 lbs.

Thanks to GordMay for the links and to SkiprJohn for the confirmation. It appears that my mast is 40-ft long with single spreaders at 20-ft. With the winches installed, the sum will probably approach SkipMac's estimate.

I have built a trailer for hauling the mast with my Elantra and was a little concerned about the weight center of gravity being higher than the trailer floor. 10-ft of the mast will extend over the car. I was hoping the total weight would be under 300-lbs for road stability. The bottom of the mast will be at the back end of the trailer (legal 3-ft hangover with red flag).

The trailer will also be the mast storage and mast inspection location with block supports to set the mast straight during storage.
