Hello from Gatineau PQ

Hello,

My name is Yves and I sail an Ericson 32 (1970) in the Thousand Islands where Lake Ontario and the St-Lawrence River meet. My sailboat's name is Sous L'Vent and it's what we call a "Good Old Boat".

I hope to see some of you on the water.

Have a nice summer !!!

Bonjour, Yves. I hope to visit the Thousand Islands this summer, now that I have a decent anchor.

Re: Hello from Gatineau PQ

Bonjour mon ami, and welcome to the best sailing forum I have yet to find. I’m Canadian, a former Ottawa resident, currently based in the UK and way back when, we used to sail our trusty CC 27 out of Dorval Island down to the Thousand Islands and points further east until we got tired of doing that. The traffic can be a problem for sure, but the sailing is pure joy. And although I never counted them, I’m sure that there really are a thousand islands in that stretch of the Lawrence.
Venture further east to the mouth of the mighty Lawrence and the world of water sailing">blue water sailing awaits you, if you are like me, it will call to you and if you are like me, you will respond to the call and venture beyond the “Land on both sides” sort of sailing, you will go coastal down the eastern seaboard, become brave and sail the Caribbean, and then, like us, perhaps you will go global.
From our early beginnings in Lake Ontario, and our many adventures in Lake Superior, transitioning through our early adventures in the Caribbean, we have since crossed the Atlantic several times and cruised the Pacific on three memorable occasions.
And the biggest boat we have ever owned is a 40 Footer which is the one we have right now.
I guess my message to you is sort of a warning, if you get hooked on sailing the mighty Lawrence, beware, you may well find yourself going much further than you planned.
I truly hope so, that’s why sailing boats were invented…James
