Hello from Eugene/Portland

Hello everyone,

we are Ted and Eliza, recently ASA 104 certified sailors who own a Newport Cruiser 27 on the Columbia. We hope to move up to a bigger boat soon and sail Puget Sound up and around Vancouver Island before heading to other parts if we decide we like the life

We both grew up in sailing families, and hope that as we progress, the "muscle memory" will return

We hope to connect with others in our area because we would love to get on as many boats as possible before we decide our next steps.

Nice to meet everyone!

Eliza and Ted.

Re: Hello from Eugene/Portland

You should join the Sauvie Island Yacht Club, which is a cruising-oriented club with very low membership costs.
See the website, newsletter and calendar here:
About SIYC | Sauvie Island Yacht Club
There isn't another club meeting until Fri Sept 4th, but there is a July 10th - 12th summer cruise to Cathlamet, Elochoman Marina, to which you could come. If interested, PM me and I'll give you contact info for the cruise organizer. Otherwise, feel free to come to the Sept 4th meeting 7:30PM Sauvie Island Academy, 14445 NW Charlton Rd Portland, OR 97231

Looking for Quick Answers?

This is the best and fastest method I have found to the answers I seek here.
Since you are relatively new to the forum, here is my favorite friendly forum search tip: Look at the green menu bar on the forum pages for the drop down "Search" menu. Click on that to drop down a list of search functions. From that drop down menu select the GOOGLE CUSTOM search feature (the second box down) and then enter several different descriptive terms for your topic of interest. That will do a Custom google search of ONLY this site and it is likely to find answers to your questions or results for you. Note: this is different from using the regular forum search box or field. Also note, this is NOT found if you use the CF app. It IS found if you use a web browser such as Safari, etc.

Thanks Rusty! The SIYC looks like just the group we were searching for! We'll definitely put the meeting on our calendar.

Welcome Eliza and Ted.
Has the heat got to you yet, it's been pretty darn hot for Portland this year. We are docked at Salpare and it's pretty impressive to watch all the sailors head out in the afternoon for the afternoon sail, sure gets crowded out there. Best of luck,

Welcome aboard.
SIYC is a great idea.
We just moved to St Helens after 20 some years sailing out or Portland. Great sailing, very little traffic, lots of places to go anchor, peace and quite.

Hey Crusty,

We are neighbors. We are at Tomahawk. We are thinking of heading out this weekend...if you are in town, PM me and we can meet for a drink at the cafe?

We sailed about three weeks ago. What with the 7 barges, hundreds of motor boats pulling little kids in rafts, and the jet skis, I was a wreck when we docked that evening! E

Hi Eliza and Ted,

I just noticed that the SIYC calendar on the web page is out of date, but you can find the current one in the newsletter here: http://www.siyc.org/wp-content/uploa...-June-2015.pdf

Except for Xmas time, all monthly meetings are on the first Friday of each month.

Hope to see you there - Rusty & Taunya
