Hello From Enkhuizen, the Netherlands

Hello all,

After reading the forum for some years it's time so sign up. I appreciate the open atmosphere and vast amount of knowledge going around the forum.

I've been sailing since the lat 60's, my first crossing in late 70's. No GPS or autopilot. Been sailing offshore ever since. Together with my family we've cruised the northsea and the baltic an have been been round the atlantic during the 2007-2008 season in a Hallberg 45. Now we sail a Contest 36S. very happy with her. She's in good condition though I will make some improvements in the next couple of years.

I live in Enkhuizen the Netherlands, just above Amsterdam. A nice historical town with several very nice harbours.

Thanks for all the info so far, I hope I can contribute. Im not only into sailing but also into maintenance, systems and computers, have been using OpenCPn for several years now.

Kindest and good winds to all,

Sjoerdm

Re: Hello From Enkhuizen, the Netherlands

Welcome!

We sailed to Enkhuizen in 2006. I remember thinking that the very sci-fi looking control tower at Jachthavensluis was an interesting design for a 600 year old town.
What a great place to live! We really enjoyed the town.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
It's good to have you posting here. I was lucky enough to visit the Netherlands in the 70s and 80s. You live in a beautiful country.

Welcome,

You seem to be a short sail from my boat's home town!

Looks like a beautiful area.

Re: Hello From Enkhuizen, the Netherlands

Welcome. I just got off my Contest 27, #126, built in Netherlands in 1971. I bought her two weeks ago and brought her around from the Chester River on the Eastern shore of Maryland to the Potomac River in Maryland. A little ship and my new best friend!

@raybrett,

Perheps you have already checked out the Contest Yacht Owners Club?? They have a lot of knowledge about Contests, also the classic ones.

Check out the club at Contest Yacht Owners Club
They also have a nice forum.
