Hello From Connectcut!

Hello all, hubs and I are thinking of doing the live aboard thing for a few years starting about 2 or 3 years from now. He was career navy in the sub fleet, and I sailed small boats [my first sailboat was the classic Sunfish] and putzing around on a lightening, so the size of craft that we would need for living aboard is a tad larger than I am used to We are both going to be doing all of the USCG classes and hands on sailing classes we can over the next few years, and lots of research as well.

We are interested in motorsailers and are researching models. Since he was a machinists mate, he is in charge of the mechanical and plumbing aspects of the craft, and I will be in charge of deciding if it is a craft I can live upon [I am on crutches and occasionally in a wheelchair on land if I am having a really bad day.]

Welcome aboard! Hope you find the perfect boat...and a little bigger than the sunfish!

Re: Hello From Connectcut!

Actually I still have her in my barn! Never got around to selling or giving her away, I let my goddaughters haul her out when they visit. We have a fair number of cute little lakes with boat ramps here in Eastern CT.

We are hoping to get something in the 45-55 foot range - I was drooling over a Nordhavn 56, I have lived in worse apartments I think our price range will be in the $100K - $150K range used.

Nordhavns are superb, I think you have great taste. But I think you might have to add a zero to your price range before looking at a 56.

However there are plenty of nice trawlers in the 100-150k range.

As for motor sailers, there are not a great many to choose from. But if I wanted a motor sailer, I would have an Islander Freeport among my top choices. Very solid Bob Perry design.

Welcome to CF!
