Hello from Colorado Springs, Colorado

hello my name is barry but everyone calls me fish, because I know alot about fish and eventually want to run my own charter fishing business. My goal is to liveaboard my 36ft trojan in cozumel and take people out on fishing excursions when the cruise ships come to port. I'm currently in the army and will be getting out in december this year. Does anyone know of a marina that allows live aboards in cozumel?

Hi Fish and welcome to the forum,

Nice idea but you should check into work permits, basically the Mexican equivalent of the green card required for immigrants to the US before they can work here. Most countries want to encourage employment for their citizens and setting a competing business as a foreigner may be difficult.

Do not know the specific laws of Mexico but this is the general pattern for most countries. Might work if you can set up the business with a local partner.

thank you. I have looked into all of that. My main concern is finding a place to be able to live aboard while there. Is it against the law to live out @ sea while anchored? And with a 300 gal gas tank can I make it to cozumel from galveston or would I have to follow the coast of texas and mexico for emergency gas stops?

Aloha and welcome aboard,
Thanks for your service. If you can determine how many hours you can run your engines on 300 gal. and how far you can get per hour then you'll know if you'll need to refuel.
Sorry I don't know that area of Texas and Mexico at all.
kind regards,
