Hello from Colorado Springs

Hello all!

I've very much enjoyed lurking here for a couple of months.

It's my dream, at this point, to retire as a liveaboard in about 15 years or so. I've got about zero experience on the water, but lived in Key West for a couple of years and really dig the sea and the weather. So a dream, but not exactly practical giving my experience level. The wife is not yet on board with the idea either...

I may have the opportunity in a year and half or so to get an assignment in Monterey, CA for 18 months. I might be on my own for that, so am thinking about trying a liveaboard stint as a "geographical bachelor". Looks like Moss Landing is about the only option for Monterey Bay at this point. So, my short term interest is in looking for options on a 35' or so.

My back ground. I'm originally from Ohio. Did a few things in life, but ended up in the US Army. Was going to do my 3 years but I've been in for 10 years now (as tends to happen), and I will go through military retirement. I'm married with 2 dogs, a cat and no kids, but we are trying. I'm nearly 42, so the kids will get a well seasoned Dad, lol.

What with deployments and such I think I will not likely learn to sail. And without the wife having great interest, power is likely the way to go.

So, in short, I'm here to learn. And I really hope to keep my dream going!

Welcome aboard. Keep your dream alive. Make time for your dreams; life has a way of coming up on you all the time and your dreams can be "put on hold." You know--no dream, no life!. We have family in CS. They come east to sail with us. Find a way to get on board to know if this is really your dream. Vacations are really for dream catching. See you on the water.

Welcome aboard. Moss Landing is a friendly place and Phil's is the best fresh sea food cafe around.

The down side is that there aren't a lot of "destinations" for weekend trips in the area. Day sailing in the bay is fine.

There are quite a few sailors in the small lakes around Denver and Pueblo reservoir, so check them out if you can get a chance. RMSAIL.com is the US Sailing regional organization that does some coordinating of sailing in the intermountain lakes region including Colorado.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Sounds like you'll be going to DLI? Moss Landing is a great place to make friends. Very down to earth working port with some boat bargains. The marina in Monterey is quite a bit more pricey but extremely nice. That aquarium there is, in my point of view, the best in the world.
Thanks for your service and good luck on your assignment.
kind regards,
