Hello from Boston

Hi,
"I am an experienced sailor. I circumnavigated the world several times. I was also caught in force 8 storm and survived to tell the story"

If only above statements are true. In reality I am new to sailing, and I am planning to learn it this summer.

I am from Boston, just wanted to say hi to other sailors around the world.

Hey Carl. Welcome! I guess you won't have any trouble with the celestial navigation side of things.

I don't know what your learning plans are. My wife sailed out of the Boston Harbor Sailing Club before she got her own boat (before me ). She still has friends and great stories from her time there.

If you're really new and want to stay in more enclosed waters, lots of sailors got their start on the Charles River Basin at Community Boating.

I also suvived a force 8 storm, but it wasn't such a big deal because I was standing on dry land.

Re: Hello from Boston

Thanks Tartansail and Maxingout for welcoming me

"Welcome! I guess you won't have any trouble with the celestial navigation side of things. " -- I have to learn that. I can guess my profile name prompted you to say that I have theoretical knowledge of sailing thriough books. I am planning to test it out this summer. I will check out those locations.

Dave - I read lot of articles on your maxingout website. My favorite is this - FEEL THE FREEDOM. I also ordered your dvd recently. I am glad to be see your message in my thread.

Thanks again!!

Re: Hello from Boston

I survived a force 8 (gusting 10) storm - 30' waves up between the spreaders - never knew if at the top of a wave we were going to surf straight down, or crash into a lumpy vortex of swirling angry water... Total faith in the boat (well, that's what i kept telling myself), and a great ride - better than Alton Towers. Well, I figured I may as well enjoy it!

I hope you have as much fun with this as we all have!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Been through one typhoon and two hurricanes but not on a sailboat. Navy Cruisers and Destroyers. Definitely not exhilirating just a lot of scary work to keep the ships pointed into the waves with 75% of the crew too sick to standup.
kind regards,

Wussies! When I was in the Navy I rode out a couple of hurricanes and I don't remember anyone on the boat getting sick. Of course this was submarine 400 feet down and we only knew about the storm because it said so on the days breifing!

PS - far as learning to sail in Boston: I also did the Boston Harbor sailing Club. Boats were pretty worn but was worth the price for the learning I got.
