Hello From Arizona

I was brought here a year or two ago by Google and this time by Lin and Larry Pardey's website. My focus is on living aboard frugally in a small inexpensive boat with the bare minimum of costs. I.E. no motor, no insurance, and with the knowledge needed to operate and repair the boat all myself. I hope to read every post on here freely (literally) and gleam all of the knowledge I can in addition to sailing all coasts of the US with a plan to set sail across the oceans in a couple of years.

The ultimate goal is to work less and live more. And to me, boats are not work. They are a path to a better life.

Welcome aboard!

I was first bitten by the boat bug when I was a teen in Prescott, AZ. That's quite a way from any good cruising grounds!

There's a lot of great people and good info here.

So, what are your plans? Stay in AZ, or move to the big water areas?

A 14-foot mini-cruiser is minimalist. A 19ft is comfortable, and anything much larger than a 25 borders on ostentatious.

Re: Hello From Arizona

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. Living aboard, sailing and cruising can all be a bit different. For anyone who wants to sail I recommend a basic sailing course wherever you can find one cheap. For living aboard all you need is a boat in the water and to move aboard. Cruising you need to know how to do both. For living aboard at marinas you'll more than likely need insurance which means you'll need a survey on a functional boat.
Good luck in your pursuit whichever way you go.
kind regards,
