Hello from an SC student sailor!

My name is Tyler Johnson, Im 18 and a student in Greenville SC.. and I stumbled across sailing in the best kind of way.. a friend with a boat. We now race a J/24 named "Teenage Wasteland" with all teenagers aboard, Ive been trimming, but will soon be the tactician.

all that said, I am aware this is a Cruising forum.. "Cruisers Forum" kind-of gave it away. and though all of my experience so far has been racing, I know that Crusing is in my future... when I'm all grown up and such.. haha. so hopefully I will gather some experience, knowledge, and even friends around here!

Cruising is a lot of fun. You might like it as much as racing. Racing and sailing all you can just can't be a bad idea until you get a chance to try a cruise. You just can't get too experienced with the sailing part.

I was out racing with a friend New Years Day. It was cold but the sun was bright and the wind was 20 knots. We sailed fast on a short course and all had a great time. Followed it up with a pot luck dinner and we all had a great day.

Welcome Aboard Tyler. Once sailing, it seems everybody is a racer even though they say they are cruising. Cruisers try to get as much out of their sails as possible, until the wind pipes up. Enjoy your racing.

Aloha Tyler,
I think most of us have raced before. It really helps you understand sail trim and is a big help to cruisers too.
Hope you enjoy the forum. If you are all teenagers then what happens if one of you turns 20? Walk the plank?
Kind regards,
JohnL
