Hello from Alabama Gulf Coast!

Hi to all from Baldwin county. I've learned a great deal from reading the forums here, and I'm glad to finally say I'm a member. Cheers!

Re: Hello from Alabama Gulf Coast!

Hey Tim, welcome.

I've been hanging out in Orange Beach for a while now. Hoping for another coastal cruise by the fall/winter this year.

But for now Wolf, Arnica, and Perdido Bays have provided many great day sail opportunities.

I mention this just in case you are over in Fairhope or Daphne and haven't ventured further east yet. If you haven't, you should come over to Bear Point or Pirate's Cove and hang with the locals for a weekend. Before the tourists start arriving and things get so busy.

Re: Hello from Alabama Gulf Coast!

Hi Tim,

Welcome from Hood River, Oregon. I'm from the eastern shore ( fairhope ). Windy Johnston taught me how to sail. I have been living in Hood River Oregon for the past twelve years. My parents still live in Fairhope and my dad has his boat at Fly Creek. I've been working 6 years on a F-44SC cat ( F-44SC Catamaran )and our first voyage is to head down the west coast, through the panama canal and back home. There's some great sailing in Mobile bay. I still love it's brown water and the white beaches of the Gulf of Mexico. ( just don't dig down to deep in that beautiful white sand, there's a mysterious brown layer of goo under there ) I still love it and I'll see you back there real soon.

Re: Hello from Alabama Gulf Coast!

Welcome aboard. I used to do a lot of diving out of Gulf Shores and have sailed all the Alabama coast.

I'm sure you did the whiskey wreck and Perdido Pass. Water has been pleasant here as of late. Where did you find the most enjoyable water for sailing here?

I expect we did, but that was about 30 years ago and I dont recall the dive site names. Did a lot of spear fishing on wrecks there.

Along the N Gulf Coast I like from Mississippi Sound starting just after you exit the Rigolets all the over to Pensacola. Good cruising ground w good anchorages, good food, friendly yacht clubs.

Welcome from Coastal Mississippi. The Eastern Shore is certainly a beautiful area!
