Hello fellow sailors and cruisers. I'm Skip, a 67 year old
living aboard my '79
Cal 34 in
San Diego. I've lived aboard for 24 years. I retired at age 55 from clinical medicine as a PA, then went cruising on my '82 Baba 30. I cruised the So.
Cal channel islands, then trucked the
boat to
Annapolis and cruised the Chesapeake, then down the
ICW to
Florida, where I settled in at Choctahatchee Bay, about 30 miles east of
Pensacola. Hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 damaged the
boat, and I fixed it up enough to sell it. Then I signed on as crew on a 68 ft.
Ketch sailing the
Marshall Islands. After that I did the
trailer sailor thing, but disliked the trucking it around part, and missed the bigger boats. So I bought the Cal and here I am, happily
living aboard and doing hops over to
Catalina Island now and then. I did crew on an
Islander 32 from
San Diego to Honolulu,
Hawaii, which was a real scary adventure, a 27 day
passage. I was never so glad to make a landfall! I'm looking forward to some online discourse with the cruising community here on the cruiser's forum.
