Hi, I've joined this board having seen it pop up in all kinds of googling for various problems/projects I envisage undertaking aboard my boat. It seems to be a fun place with many a helping hand. Please be patient My name is Joe, I'm a senior systems engineer working on Nortel/cisco/microsoft equipment. My boat is a 1974 Morgan Out Island, 36 foot, centre cockpit. We currently reside in New Zealand---and CONTARY to some Know-it-all armchair sailors, Sunchaser has made in to New Zealand from St Martin, via the BVI, ABC Islands, Panama, Galapagos, French Polynesia with very little drama. This boat only draws 4 foot when loaded, leaks like a sieve, does not sail to windward and is 33 years old--go figure.

It does however now look like a refugee boat from Cuba or West Africa--hence the MANY projects.

Go lightly on the congrats-- We only did the Part up to Curacao. Wife suffered from terminal tension/seasickness/runningthemouthness etc. So after doing some soulsearching (kid still too young to dump the wife)--we flew the rest of the way to NZ.. Some good friends of ours who needed/wanted/desired a Pacific holiday brought the old gal over for the price of plane tickets home and consumables (damn good deal).. However, they spent more time partying across South Pacific than doing essential maintenance, hence boat arrived looking very worse for wear

Welcome to the board!! Great members here with tons of knowledge and experience and they are all extremely generous with sharing such knowledge. Seeing your boat gives me much more confidence on doing huge passages when I get my boat!!

A boat with many projects describes most of the boats here. Some folks have more projects than others. You may actually know most of yours. Other people have them waiting to be found.

Good luck with your projects! Lots here as far as advice and ideas to help you with those short journeys inside and around the boat.

Just a personal observation - You won't win the ugly boat contest with this one. It should clean up just fine.

Congratulations are still in order. Morgan O/Is are roomy, strong, heavy, slow boats that are notoriously poor performers to windward. Hence, they are excellent cruising boats.
