Hello Everyone! Couple Looking To Charter With Someone

Hi Everybody, I'm new to the forum and hopefully I'm posting this in the right place!

For a few years now my wife and I have been toying with the idea of selling the house, getting a boat and spending a few years cruising around the Caribbean.

Now that we’re reaching our mid forties, we’d like to move to the next step and spend at least a week living aboard a Catamaran. Maybe even a few times, a week here and then another week a few months later etc…..

We say “Catamaran” because we’ve been on Mono-hulls as well and a Catamaran is what we’d like to end up with.

We live in Vancouver, Canada. We have taken our first sailing certification course, and have been out a few times since. We are definitely “novices”.

Sailing around Lions Bay on a 36 foot Mono-hull with 6 other people doesn’t’ really give us a good idea of what living aboard is like.

We’re not strangers to the Caribbean; we spent seven years working onboard Carnival Cruise Lines and also lived in Bermuda for a year.

We’re honest, hardworking and are not looking for a luxury charter where people are waiting on us hand and foot. We have no problem pulling our own weight and helping out. In fact we’d like to do so.

We just really want to get out on a Catamaran and see if this is something we’d really like to do.

We’re looking at Chartering companies but thought we’d try here on the forum as well.

We’d much rather spend some time with people who are actually doing it.

If anyone is interested in having us onboard (for a fee of course) or knows of someone who would be interested please contact us and we’d love to discuss it further.

Ideally we’d like to try somewhere we’d be interested in going ourselves (the Caribbean or around Florida) but we are open to other places as well.

Thanks in advance!

They will be better served if they'd spend quality sailing time with a cat's owner. That's the way to go! They'll learn from first hand experience supplemented with their book's knowledge. Good luck!

ray, welcome and good luck in your adventure.
Here is a link to a couple of fellow canucks, Mike and Rebecca, who have been cruising for a few years on their own cat. Recently they have decided to captain and crew a large charter cat for a friend. They may be just what you are looking for.
Interesting read if you have some time.

Thank you all for the replies and emails!

We've just spent some more time on a sailboat but have yet to get out on a Cat.

We're talking to a few people with Cats now so we'll keep you updated!

Thanks again for all your great advice!
