hello and help

Hi
my name is Jeff
I have just joined up and would like to say hi to all
and ask a bit of advice if I may
I have a Leopard 48, currently moored in Turkey
and which I use mainly for pleasure and cruising around the islands rather than any long distance voyages
i am toying with the idea of moving playgrounds but dont quite know where to go
I have been told that the Philippines are beautiful and would like to look into the prospect of moving the Leopard over
what I would really appreciate is some advice
as to
The local authority requirements
how long are we allowed in their waters
what would it cost to crew the boat over as apposed to shipping it
where would be the nicest part of the island group be to base one's self to take 1 or 2 weeks excursions from
what is the safety like (im told that could be a problem)
what
where would be the best part be to avoid Monsoons
there seems to be a bit of confusion on the web as what fees to pay and to who
if there is a book or u tube or a source that I could go to to get all the info I need I would be most grateful for a contact website, name or email
I have tried the embassy here in London
but sadly, i dont even get the pleasure of having my calls answered
lastly
i wish all those that took the time to read my note
all the best you wish for yourself
and thank you for your time

best
Jeff

Re: hello and help

Welcome!

I assume you're aware that some parts of the PI are fairly hazardous regions, right? And from where you are now, the routes for getting a sailing vessel there are likely even more so for some parts of the route. Think pirates.

As to officialom, you might try the US State Department, & other government agencies which deal with travel. Plus of course, contact the appropriate folks in the PI directly. Though be aware that what you're told, & what you encounter in real life when you get there, can differ vastly.

Also, get in touch with several yacht delivery companies. Being sure to vet any which you're seriously interested in. But they'll have info on delivery costs, as well as officialdom, if it's a region to which they commonly deliver boats, or hire out captains & crew to work in. Ditto on sailing routes, safety, etc.

Can't help you much specificially on the deck cargo bit. Though most likely Bing, & Google could. At least to start. And FWIW in the last Volvo Ocean Race (VOR), there were some regions where the organizers had the boats shipped as cargo, rather than have the crews sail through them, as they're just too dangerous to sail though on a high value target like a fancy yacht. And it's easy enough to check where specifically those boats got shipped to & from, as well as what the plans for the current VOR which is about to start.

Re: hello and help

Hi Chootpah and welcome to the forum.

A place to start research on customer, immigration, etc it Noonsite.com —. Not the final resource but will give you the basics on how long you can stay, costs, etc.

I will second the comments from uncivilized. Parts of the PI are extremely dangerous. They currently have a serious problem with rebels and extremists in certain areas which can spill over into areas otherwise considered safe.

Re: hello and help

Jeff,
It sounds as if you are not familiar with South-East Asia...
If that is so, I'd suggest catching a flight first, and getting to know the region a bit from the land side. Then you will get to know about the rules and the culture, can make contacts, get a bit around on local boats, etc etc.
Everything from people's behaviour to the weather systems in the region are rather different from Europe / Turkey.
Another option, and what I have been doing, is first getting the boat to Thailand. That is a more developed place than the Philippines.
Thailand has a big tourism industry, the weather is kind, and Phuket has a great choice of cheap services if you need to fix up the boat in any way.
From there it's not far to the lesser-known parts of Asia.
